The Cardrome was opened to the public in 1956, by the then minister of transport Sir Ernest Marples. A combination of car sales, petrol station, MOT station, mechanical services, welding services, accident repairs, tyre sales & repairs, valeting services, steam cleaning and car wash are encompassed all in one site. Surrounded by a unique 12-acre private road complex, which is home to a driver training centre (from pre 17 learners to advanced) and motorcycle training centre, the Cardrome is quite literally the only complete car and driver centre of its kind in the country.

Very disappointed with the arrogant staff member who spoke to my husband late morning. My husband & daughter travelled 70 miles, paid the fee to be told they couldn't use the site. Rules weren't visible until you get in & were not on your website. After the pandemic our daughter was looking forward to driving so this really upset her. Won't be using Cardrome ever again.

Cheap as chips for a practice drive for my son in my own car. 15 entry fee is a bargain, and there's no time limit on how long you can spend there. The road markings have faded almost completely and could really use a repaint; I don't think they've been done since I learned to drive there with my dad 30 years ago. Subsequently the other learners are all over the place and my arse was making buttons the whole time.

Fantastic experience, took my son today for a quick drive, he ended up driving for 3 hours straight and loved every minute of it. I do think the owners need to maintain it a little better though, fix the pot holes, reinstate the traffic lights etc but it's still worth the 15 (you need 15 x 1 coins). We arrived at 9:45 ish on a Saturday morning, by around 11am there were approx another 20-25 cars so it became a little busy but that really didn't effect our experience

Honest David's reviews. I like this place. it's great for people to learn to drive and NOT be on public roads. The place has cars you can use but I think you can being your own if you want (and can legally get it there). Once there it's a big old place and a porta cabin office, reminds me of the old top gear place. And then it's off you go with the instructor for a lesson. Roads are like the real world, with line markings, roundabouts, corners, junctions and lights.
Everything you need. I also believe you can be under 17 to drive here, so it's perfect for youngters to learn before they are old enough. Seems busy so you should pre-book by phone before driving there. 4*s from me.

Cardrome has great facilities and a safe training grounds with friendly, helpful staff. I approached this place to get some practice and to start with my CBT. It only took 10 minutes (with a 50 minute safety talk) of getting on a bike for me to get sent home, even though I did say during the booking that I was a complete beginner. I did select a manual over an automatic, so maybe the added difficulty is on me.
Either way, it was a pretty upsetting time. Beware as there are no refunds on the CBT offered, even if you were only there for a fraction of the day. It sort of makes it more upsetting. If, like me, you're an absolute newbie, maybe try specialists or friends instead.
