Formed back in 1938 by Jack Gilder, J Gilder & Co. Ltd. were initially concerned with the sale of used cars, spare parts and servicing. In June 1953, J Gilder & Co. Ltd. made history by taking on the first Volkswagen franchise in the UK and remain one of only two companies to survive under family ownership, earning Gilders the title of oldest Volkswagen retailer in the British Isles. Audi operations for the Gilder Group commenced in 1973 and today the Gilder Group Ltd. has grown into one of the most successful Volkswagen and Audi Retailer groups.
