Clive Watson was an apprentice tool maker at International Harvesters when he started buying and selling cars at just 16 years old. He has been the backbone of the business since then and over the years has seen it grow in size and stature into the successful business Portland Autos is today. Absolutely professional! I decided to give James a call on a whim to see if he could offer a better price for my defender. Ten minutes later, we had struck a deal, and I caught a ride home with the money already in my bank account! No unnecessary fees, no wasting time—this was my first time dealing with James, but it certainly won't be the last. James is a top-notch guy.

Buying one of my dream cars from Portland Autos was a great experience. I dealt primarily with Rob and James. Having made a long journey to the dealership, I was welcomed in a great manner by Rob and while looking at the car, I didn't feel pressured at all. Very relaxed experience. The dealership is in a fantastic location and looks amazing I must add. Portland Autos were very accommodating to my requirements as I was not ready to purchase the car right away and held the car for me for circa 2 months on trickle charger etc.
During this time, various work was done on the car to have it in a great condition for my collection day. When it came to collection day, it couldn't have gone smoother - a nice, fast and slick process and before I knew it, I was driving away in my new car with a massive smile on my face. Post sales service from Rob and James was great as well, the car had some issues with tyre pressure as soon as I drove away and this persisted for a few weeks after collection day.
This was due to a tyre repair not being done correctly - when this was done was unknown to both Portland Autos and myself. However, Rob and James approached this professionally; we were able to come to an agreement that worked for us both whereby Portland Autos paid for half of the bill for a new tyre. I'd certainly buy a car again from Portland Autos.

I bought a Range Rover from Portland Autos in January 2022, part exchanging my 2016 Mercedes E350 Estate. The company present their cars immaculately online and made doing business remotely very easy. Unfortunately on driving the Range Rover away, I noticed a warning light because the key batteries were low but I continued home as I had a long drive back, I also noticed that one of the wiper blades was in need of replacing.
This was a very poor first impression and left me disappointed that the car hadn't been checked for faults or fully prepared for collection. Within 24 hours the car had developed 3 additional faults, with the parking brake showing an error, paddle shifts on the steering column not working and a large section of the heated windscreen in front of the driver not working either. James at Portland Autos was quite unapologetic, he felt the need to remind me that I've bought a 9-year-old car and these types of issues are to be expected. James even initially assumed user error for the gearshift paddle not working.
Eventually he found a local garage to carry out a diagnostics check. After discovering what faults the car had, I wanted to reject the car under my short-term right to reject under the Consumer Rights Act, however James refused to accept this. I had no option but to give them an opportunity to put the faults right. After accepting this however James then decided to only fix 2 of the 3 faults and has told me to claim the windscreen issue against my insurance and that he'll pay the excess as "goodwill".
This is unacceptable as my fully comprehensive insurance policy only covers replacement windscreens for damaged glass rather than broken heated windscreen elements. James did not care that I would have to pay the 750 for a replacement windscreen, only contributing 125 to the cost. Portland Autos should learn to fully prepare their cars to prevent these issues happening to other customers in future.

Brilliant dealership. Literally bought my dream car- a Porsche Panamera in an incredible spec from them. The online advert and level of detail was very accurate which made my decision fairly straightforward. They were very patient and understanding during the purchase process. Customer service was impeccable, I was picked up from the station by their driver who was a really nice chap, very welcoming.
Presentation and handover of the car was also very classy. I would like to give a special thanks and shout out to Adam. I will be highly recommending friends and family when they consider buying a luxury car. Great family business, wishing them all the best!

Traded in my Audi Q7. Rob looked at the car for barely one minute. He didn't kick the tyres, he didn't tut and say we'll need to knock some money off for that. Portland paid me more than the We Buy Any Car guys and with minimal fuss. I took my V5 in today, Rob changed the ownership and put the money in my bank in literally minutes! He then gave me a lift to the Station. I couldn't recommend these guys enough! They do exactly what they say they will. On a side note, if you're looking for a great Audi Q7 they're selling one!

Portland Autos were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Adam dealt with sale of the car from start to finish, with great communication and efficiency. It made the whole buying experience an absolute delight and I couldn't be more thankful. I spoke to Adam after being messed about by a dealership, where I initially placed an order for a vehicle and after 7 months of false promises I still hadn't received the car.
I cancelled my order and within days purchased a beautiful, immaculate vehicle with Adams help. The after care I received was excellent. A few weeks after the purchase, I came across a minor fault. I spoke to Adam and without hesitation, he offered to replace the part free of charge. He placed the order the same day and it arrived the following day. What an excellent service. Such a pleasant experience buying from Portland Autos, Adam and the team could not have been more helpful. Always quick to respond to emails even over the Christmas period. It's my dream car and the experience lived up to and often exceeded expectations. I have in the past bought through main dealers and this was such a relaxed and pleasant experience in comparison. I've bought two beautiful cars from Portland Autos and have a third one coming in Oct. Adam, James & Clive go above and beyond to help you find exactly what you are looking for and your needs in a car. Nothing is too much trouble this is an amazing family business with such a personal touch added to the experience. These guys are more like family friends tbh, always a bit of banter and time for a chat.
